Cinder Block Bench
This is a cheap and easy way I found to build an outdoor bench using cinder blocks and wood. It is perfect for a patio, around a fire pit, or in a garden. I highly recommend pairing it with the succulent planter that I made to go along with this. You can find that post here.
All Materials Used
- 14 double cored cinder blocks
- 6 pieces of wood posts (size used: 4-in x 4-in x 8-ft)
- Latex primer (brand used: Zinsser Bulls Eye Interior & Exterior Latex Primer)
- paint (brand used: Behr, color used: Cathedral Grey, type used: exterior flat)
- Paint roller
- Silicone adhesive (brand used: Iron Grip) or Gorilla Glue
- Sandpaper
- Spar urethane (brand used: Miniwax, finish: satin)
- Synthetic bristle brush
- 3 seat cushions and 3 back cushions (brand used: Ikea)
Tips and Recommendations
- Make sure to glue the top 3 blocks of each base with the opening facing the proper direction. I initially placed the top block in the wrong direction in the video, but later fixed it.
- Use a roller to paint the blocks.
- Use 100-180 grit sandpaper prior to wood finish
- Use a synthetic bristle brush for applying spar urethane finish.
- Lightly sand (200-320 grit) between coats of spar urethane for smooth/ best results.
